Hello,
My name is Darren Cleave and I wrote The Book of Quantism.
I’ve been told I should tell you a little bit about myself, so here we go.
I’m 64, I live in Yorkshire, England, and I’m a semi-retired maintenance engineer.
I began writing The Book of Quantism about 25 years ago.
At the time I was an entertainer, working two or three evenings a week in social clubs around Yorkshire.
I started writing by hand on the back of spare bits of paper, mostly as something to do while waiting between stints on stage. Eventually, I bought myself a little old laptop and my drafts became digital.
Over the years, I kept studying, researching and reconsidering the ideas behind the story and eventually had what was effectively two books.
I have since combined them into one, with two intertwined strands: OBP – Of Biblical Proportions, my original story, and Q – The Book of Quantism, which developed later.
Around 2017, I decided to try to find a publisher. Traditionally, that begins with finding a literary agent.
It turned out to be quite a negative experience.
As a very ordinary working man with no contacts in the publishing industry and no established following, I found the process quite soul-destroying. Preparing carefully tailored submissions to precise specifications, then waiting several months for a polite but clearly generic rejection, isn’t much fun.
So, I’ve decided to market the book myself, which in itself is an interesting experience.
Being rich and famous isn’t why I wrote the book. I just want people to read it.
About the Book
First and foremost, The Book of Quantism is a story – my fictional interpretation of the Biblical saga.
It doesn’t neatly fit into a conventional category. It is a story, but it is also an exploration of ideas about religion, science, consciousness, creation and the nature of humanity.
I don’t for one second consider myself a guru, or someone blessed with mystical vision. I am simply someone who has studied the subject deeply and constructed his own creative interpretation.
I appreciate the scriptural concept of God. A supernatural guiding presence is, in principle, entirely feasible. What raises doubt for me is the traditional way it is being presented. The stories come from an era far removed from the philosophical, scientific and intellectual understanding of the modern reader. I don’t believe that updating our perspective is blasphemous. It is adaptive.
Final thoughts
I genuinely hope people enjoy The Book of Quantism for what it is – a metaphysical fantasy. And I hope they analyse and criticise. Some will accept the possibilities it raises; other won’t. If it makes them stop and think about their own perspective, so much the better.
My intention is not to challenge anyone’s faith, but to invite more people to search a little deeper and consider the possibilities.
